What Do Universities Look For?

I thought some of you would find this interesting. Every year the National Association for College Admission Counseling releases their State of College Admissions report. I have put a box around the most important criteria when colleges are making admissions decisions. You’ll see the third item on the list is about the strength of high school classes. Colleges like to see that students have taken the most rigorous classes that they can do well in and in as many subject areas as possible. You’ll also see that a student’s interest in attending the school is pretty important. If a school tracks demonstrated interest, your child will definitely want to be interacting with the college. And notice that SAT and ACT scores are the 11th most important factor nationally. Obviously, in a state like Florida that requires test scores for public universities, this number might be a bit higher for some schools.
