Early Decision at FSU and UF

In case you missed the huge announcement from each school, both Florida State and the University of Florida will have an early decision round of admissions this year. This is going to make admissions feel much different for Florida students this year. If one of these schools is very heavily your child’s top choice and they would be happy retracting all other applications to other colleges if they are admitted, they will definitely want to consider applying early decision. This is a binding round, so students can only apply ED to one school. If they want to weigh options and make a choice later from various offers of admission, then ED is not for them. If they would be over the moon to be accepted to one of these schools and wouldn’t mind not hearing other decisions, then ED is for them (provided they have the needed test scores by that time. There is no magic number or guarantee, but I’d definitely recommend being above a 1300 or a 29).

Both schools will still have an early action round that is not binding. ED applications are due on 10/15 for both schools, and early action (non binding) applications are due on 11/1 for UF and 10/15 for FSU (like it has always been). Students are not advised to apply regular decision (unless you’re applying to FSU and don’t live in FL). FSU will let students update their admissions portal with new SAT or ACT scores until December 1, and decisions for ED and EA will come out for them on 12/17. On the other hand, UF will not accept test scores after 10/22 for ED or 11/8 for EA. Decisions will be released on 12/11 for ED and 1/22 for EA from UF.

If rising seniors aren’t spending this summer on their college applications and finalizing test prep (if they aren’t happy with their score yet), they’re going to feel very rushed in the beginning of senior year to craft a quality application. These schools are extremely selective.
