Florida Admitted Student Profiles

All the Florida public universities have now released the admitted student profile for the incoming class. All of these schools perform a holistic review, so it certainly doesn’t mean that if students have these stats, they will be admitted; likewise, it doesn’t mean that a student needs to meet every single one of these metrics to be admitted.

I love the State University System Admission Matrix photo that has a LOT of data on it. I advise families to look at the S (summer admission) and F (fall admission) SAT versus ACT numbers. Many of my tutoring students don’t really understand the difference between a summer start versus a fall start.

I strongly think all seniors should seriously consider starting college in the summer term after they graduate high school. One such reason is that it brings the scores needed for admission down a bit. Another great reason is to get acclimated to the school and college life in general before all the students arrive in the fall. A third, and equally compelling reason, is that all the Florida public schools require a summer semester at some point before graduation. Why not knock it out in the beginning? Plenty of my students say, “but I want my senior summer.” They will still have their senior summer. They don’t move to campus until late June, and they come back home in early August. Their official campus move in with their roommates for the school year will be at the end of August.

In addition to working on their Common App and personal statement this summer, seniors should absolutely be taking advantage of the time to get the best test score possible to make themselves the most competitive applicant possible. (Florida public schools are not test optional.) It will be super interesting to see how UF and FSU’s new early decision round affects these numbers for next year! College admissions are constantly shifting, and this summer has been a big one already!
