Recalculating a GPA

The most important criteria colleges consider across the board when evaluating students for admission is their high school GPA in college prep courses. All colleges will recalculate a student’s GPA. They only count the 5 core subjects (math, science, social studies, English, and world languages) as well as electives that are taken above the regular level. So, PE and other electives that are not AP, IB, or AICE (Cambridge) will not count in the recalculated GPA. You will see in the yellow line at the top of the attached picture that AP, IB, and AICE classes will earn an extra point added into the GPA while honors classes earn an extra 0.5 point. And let’s take a minute to look at the stats of the deferred students from FSU last year. Any student who fits that deferred profile is an outstanding student! Like we’ve all said, college admissions have changed a lot since we were all going through it.
