Regarding the application process, they are not looking for students to do all the things. They want students to do one or two things and get super involved in that. Prospective students need congressional nominations, and they are encouraged to apply to every single one there are eligible for: Congress people and senators. Students are encouraged to get at least three recommendations. It was interesting to learn that last year there were 9565 people in the candidate pool, but most of them did not finish the application. They offered admission to 1413 students, and 1111 students accepted those offers! A 79% yield rate is pretty unheard of! A high ranking cadet told us the story of when he applied and that he didn’t think he would be admitted. He encouraged counselors to not allow students to self-eliminate themselves from the process. The academy will make the decision, but if any student is interested in applying, they should absolutely do so!
