University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill)

UNC emphasizes collaboration over competition. They offer more than 900 clubs and organizations for their 20,000 undergraduates. All students begin in their school of arts and sciences which houses most of their majors. Students will declare their major after their first year. There are more than 80 majors, 50% of students study abroad, and internships are also very popular. 100% of their students participate in research since it is built into the curriculum. They are located in an amazing place for this since they are in the research triangle with Raleigh and Durham. There are general ed requirements that students can fill in many ways. Only 7% of classes have more than 100 students (as you can imagine, these are mainly intro classes). Starting during sophomore year, most classes are under 35 students. English classes never have more than 30 students, and math never has more than 40 students. In those huge intro classes, there are assistants who walk through aisles to answer questions.
