Fairfield is a values-based, student-centered, outcomes-focused university. The values-based part refers to the fact that it is a Jesuit institution. About 60 to 65% of the students identify as Catholic, but most of them are not practicing. People of every faith and no faith are welcome. There is a group for Jewish students on campus and an Imam for the Muslim students. Their values-based tradition relates to a spirit of inquiry, and they are students who want to make a positive change in the world. There are many volunteer opportunities for students, and the faculty members care greatly for each individual student. As for Fairfield being student-centered, there are strong relationships among all faculty members and students across campus. The classes are small with a 12 to 1 student to teacher ratio. 99% of faculty have a terminal degree. The average class size is 20 to 22 students. Fairfield does not have any lecture halls, and the largest room holds 55 students. Relating to their outcomes, they have a 98% placement rate for their graduates.
