Davidson College
Charlotte, SC

Davidson is a highly selective liberal arts college. This means that students will study a broad array of academic disciplines. Prospective students are advised to list three academic interests on their application, but this is not binding. Students will not declare their major until the end of sophomore year. There is definitely room in the schedule for students to double major or have a major and a minor. The liberal arts curriculum exposes students to eight ways of knowing. Students might come in thinking they want to have one major and then realize they are very interested in studying something else. The student to faculty ratio is nine to one, and the average class size is 15 students. The largest class will have 40 students, and the smallest can be a class of one if a student is doing independent study with a professor. Their classes are not lectures but discussions, and professors take attendance because it is very important that students are present in class. Davidson offers 40 majors and minors as well as a dual degree program in engineering.
