UM is proud of the fact that their professors make education fun although they maintain high standards. Each student has quite a few advisors who are always there to help. They have a 13:1 student teacher ratio for their 10,000 undergrads while most classes average 15-25 students. UM is a tier one research institution with plenty of research opportunities in all disciplines. I was very surprised by the fact that the majority of families on my tour were not from Florida. This mirrors the fact that only 28% of the student body is from Florida. It is a very diverse student body.
So, how can you get in? The University of Miami does a holistic application review (like most schools), and they are test optional for one more year (fall 2023 application cycle). While they do publish their middle 50% scores, they made it very clear that a student shouldn’t worry if he/she is below these numbers (1350-1480, 31-34, 3.8 recalculated and unweighted). As you can imagine, a private school such as UM comes with a pretty hefty price tag, but they do meet 100% of demonstrated financial need (the difference between the FAFSA calculated amount and the cost to attend), and 73% of first-year students receive financial aid. Enjoy the pictures of the beautiful campus! It was an exclusively outdoor tour. Go, Hurricanes!
